A historic palace with modern living
Palác Motešických is located in the very centre of Bratislava, between Laurinská and Gorkého streets, a few steps from the Main Square and Hviezdoslav Square.
The original building is a late classicist palace with four wings around an inner courtyard, built around 1840 to a design by the master builder Ignác Feigler the Elder. It is listed in the Slovak register of cultural monuments.
Between 2007 and 2010 the whole palace was fully restored. A three-storey rooftop extension with maisonette apartments and roof terraces was added, and an underground car park was built beneath the courtyard.
What the building offers
- 24/7 reception. The building has a reception desk that is staffed around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Security. Access to the building is by key card, the building is monitored by CCTV and protected by its own security service.
- Green courtyard. At the heart of the palace is a peaceful garden, sheltered from the bustle of the street.
- Panoramic lifts. Two glass lifts run from the basement to the 6th storey, and the maisonettes have their own private lift.
- Roof terraces. Apartments in the rooftop extension have loggias and terraces overlooking Bratislava Castle, St Martin's Cathedral and the Old Town rooftops.
- Period details. Timber windows and solid doors are replicas of the originals, the staircases have stone steps and the facades carry stucco decoration.
- Underground parking. Parking right in the building, in a four-level garage beneath the courtyard.
- Shops and dining downstairs. The ground floor houses a café, a restaurant, a wine bar and shops.
Almost two centuries on Laurinská Street
Over its history the house has been home to a noble family, a gentlemen's club, banks and shops. These are the main milestones from the archives.
Around this year a palace-style town house is built for the Motešický family, designed by Ignác Feigler the Elder.
Houses no. 177 and 178 are recorded under the name of Josef Moteschitzky.
Around the turn of the century the palace houses the Gentlemen's Riding Club and the Magnates' Casino.
The house still belongs to descendants of the Motešický family, the Krischers. Feigler's plan for a partial extension survives from this year.
The office of builder Alexander Feigler designs a new shopfront and interior for the J. Kurtz shop on Laurinská Street.
The Slovak Mortgage and Municipal Bank adapts the building, and the city orders the facades on Laurinská and Goethe streets to be restored.
From 1950 the Investment Bank is based here and has the facades repaired. At the time the streets are called Gorkého and Leningradská.
The full restoration of the palace and the new 5th to 7th storey extension are completed. By 2015 the ground-floor shops are restored as well.
